“La Fee Electrique” (“Electric Fairy”)
This early and unusual mascot has lightning bolts streaming off the back of her shield. The soft, sinewy form is evocative of Art Nouveau. It was designed for Viriot et Janin (CEMS from 1919), a small car manufacturer located in the Paris suburbs.
There are over 240 examples of automotive mascots in the collection. This is Coiled Serpent, from 1930 by Desmo, a well-known British motor accessory company. Although animals were common inspirations for automotive mascot designers, the serpent is somewhat unique.
