Revs Institute on the Road: I Know What You Did Last Summer, Part One

Cars from the Collier Collection at Revs Institute in Naples, FL had a busy summer, with appearances at Monterey Car Week, Lime Rock and the Goodwood Revival in England.  Along the way, the collection successfully weathered Hurricane Irma when it hit Naples on Sept. 9.

The cars’ appearances were core to the Institute’s philosophy of letting people see classic automobiles in action, instead of just as static objects on a museum display floor. To celebrate the cars’ activities, we’ve assembled three photo essays, one for each event, that we’ll post over the next three weeks.  We call it: “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” with apologies (sort of) to the 1997 movie of that name.

Today’s installment, Part One, documents Monterey Car Week in August.

The Collier Collection’s 1964 Abarth Simca 2 Mila Corsa and 1966 Porsche 906 Carrera ran at the Rolex Monterey Reunion races for historic cars at the Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway.  Both were driven by Gunnar Jeannette.

The Collier Collection’s rare 1908 Mors Grand Prix Car, whose massive 12.5-liter, four-cylinder engine cranked out all of 100 horsepower (a lot for its day, actually), took second place in the Open Wheel Racing class at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the climactic event of Monterey Car Week.
